The macular is the small central area of the retina, responsbile for
fine detail vision and colour differentiation. Deterioration of this area,
known as macular degeneration, may occur very suddenly, resulting in
impaired central vision and can lead to complete loss of vision.
The deterioration cannot be reversed but reading lenses and magnifying
devices can compensate for loss of detailed vision.
